Florence Tours: Basic Orientation Walking Tour @ Florencepass! If this is your first time in Florence, we highly recommend you to start familiarizing with the downtown area joining this tour, an informative stroll with an expert local guide starting from the very square, which corresponds to the Roman camp of ancient "Florentia": today's Piazza della Repubblica, moving then to the spectacular religious center for an exhaustive description of the Piazza del Duomo, with its Baptistery, Giotto's Bell-tower and Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore, famous all over the world for its amazing dome, masterpiece by Filippo Brunelleschi. We will continue along the pedestrianized area to reach the political center - the Piazza della Signoria - dominated by the castelike Palazzo Vecchio (Old Palace) - still the Florentine City Hall - with its princely courtyard and surrounded by numerous, original and gigantic marble and bronze statues, except for Michelangelo's David (here in replica ), subsequently we will consider the impressive architecture of the Uffizi Palace and Vasari's corridor, which enabled the ruling family, the Medici, to reach their new residence located on the other side of the Arno river. Our orientation tour ends on the world-famous Ponte Vecchio, the Old Bridge, the oldest among Florentine bridges and the only one to have survived both Second World War and the last flood of the Arno River.
