The early Medici Family in Florence

This tour is focused on the influence of this prosperous merchant family onto the Florentine history from the 1430s till the family became extinct in 1737. Our guide will accompany you through the Medici Palace with its unique Chapel of the Magi, a splendidly frescopainted, windowless church in miniature for the personal use of the Medici family at their palace. Subsequently we visit the spectacular Renaissance Basilica of San Lorenzo, designed by Filippo Brunelleschi and mainly financed by the Medici family, as well its peaceful cloister and possibly the Medici Library, architectural jewel conceived by Michelangelo. This tour ends with the visit of the grandious Medici Chapels, the majestic funeral chapel constructed during the Baroque period for the tombs of the last Medicis, embellished with spectacular hard-stone inlaid works, from which we also have access to another Michelangelo's masterpiece: the New Sacristy, where the divine artist simultaneously worked as architect and sculptor.
