*The Exclusive Vasari Corridor Florence Tour will be the most special moment of your stay in Florence.
In fact, although many tourists were in Florence on several occasions, it is not obvious that they could walk through the historic walls of this unique jewel of the Renaissance, because it was not accessible for a long time.
Currently this gallery is accessible only by organized groups, through elaborate procedures of booking.
You can easily book your Vasari Corridor tour throughout 2016.
Designed by Giorgio Vasari (1511-1574), the sensational Vasari Corridor in Florence was a princely overhang passageway and escape route for the Medici family.
It connects in fact the Palazzo Vecchio (Old Palace) on the Piazza della Signoria (northern bank of the Arno River), with the newer and more prestigious Pitti Palace, in the Oltrarno, the southern bank.
The Pitti Palace had been purchased by the Medici family in 1549 by Cosimo de' Medici, later the first Grand-duke of Tuscany, and his wife Eleonora of Toledo to become the new family residence.
The Vasari Corridor superbly travels through the top floor of the Uffizi Palace, another spectacular construction by Giorgio Vasari. After leaving it, the corridor reaches the world-famous Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge) with a 90° bend in order to cross the Arno River and continue towards the Pitti Palace.
Almost one kilometer long the Vasari Corridor is one of the wonders of Florentine Renaissance architecture, and was built by Giorgio Vasari in 1565 in just five months!
Nowadays, it can be seen as a cultural "umbilical cord" given that it connects two very important museums, both full of with splendid art-works: the Uffizi Gallery and the Palatine Gallery in the Pitti Palace.
The Vasari Corridor itself is also a wonderful museum that houses a unique collection of self-portraits of artists, that come up to the twentieth century, and a rich selection of international paintings.
