Springtime of the Renaissance. Temporary Exhibition Guided Tour
The temporary exhibition Springtime of the Renaissance. Sculpture and the Arts in Florence 1400-60 is hosted at Palazzo Strozzi (Strozzi Palace), from March 23 to August 18, 2013.
Florencepass Tour Operator organizes an evening English guided tour every second and fourth Thursday of the month, starting from April 25, 2013.
The visit to the Springtime of the Renaissance exhibition will always start at 7 pm, when the summer sun burns less and there is still a bit of time before going to dinner.
The exhibition features 140 masterpieces from museums around the world. It is organized into ten thematic sections, and explores the art produced during a crucial period in the history of Florence.
The Palazzo Strozzi temporary exhibition tells the genesis of the so-called ‘miracle’ of the Renaissance in Florence, focusing on the sculptures, the works of art that first embodied this phenomenon.
The Springtime of the Renaissance touches on many important aspects of Renaissance culture and art in Florence: the rediscovery of the ancient world and its recovery through a new language; the attention to the public space during the Florentine Republic; the search for a ‘rational’ space; the invention of perspective; and the role of the private patronage during the last part of the period explored.
Through the works of Donatello, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Luca della Robbia, Nanni di Bartolo, Michelozzo, Desiderio da Settignano, Mino da Fiesole, the exhibition shows many of the art pieces that this experience produced, such as the monumental public sculpture, tombs of the Humanists, carved portrait, bas-reliefs for private devotion, and decorations for the greatest private residences, including the Strozzi Palace.
The Springtime of the Renaissance also tells the profound influence that the sculpture exerted on the painting of the greatest artists of the period, such as Masaccio, Paolo Uccello, Andrea del Castagno, Filippo Lippi.
Guided tour price: 19 € per person.
The price includes exhibition tickets and earphones.
