The FlorencePass Medici Family Grand Tour

AFTER A COMMUNICATION RECEIVED ON JULY 12th, 2016 FROM THE DIRECTOR OF THE UFFIZI GALLERIES THE VASARI CORRIDOR HAS BEEN CLOSED TO TOURISTIC VISITS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
THIS TOUR IS THUS CURRENTLY NOT BOOKABLE.

FlorencePass has crafted a full-day tour - the Medici Florence Combo Pass - to visit all most prestigious painting galleries in Florence: the Uffizi, the Vasari Corridor, with its unique collection of artists' selfportraits hanging on the walls of the private passageway used by the Medici family, and the Palatine Gallery in the magnificent Pitti Palace, which became the Grand-Duke's residence since 1560.

Your tour starts from Piazza della Signoria, where your selected English speaking guide will present the political and artistical scenario at the time of Cosimo I, first Grand-Duke of Tuscany, and then guide you through the major rooms of Uffizi Gallery's top floor showing you wonderful masterpieces of Italian painting, from Giotto to Michelangelo (Enhtroned Madonnas by Giotto and Cimabue, The Adoration of the Magi by Gentile da Fabriano, The Battle at San Romano by Paolo Uccello, The Birth of Venus and The Allegory of Springtime both by Botticelli, The Annunciation by Leonardo da Vinci and The Sacred Family (Tondo Doni) by Michelangelo.

Before the crossing of the Vasari Corridor you will enjoy some 30 minutes on your own for enjoying all breathtaking views from Uffizi large windows and especially from the panoramic terrace at the Uffizi Caffè. Stepping down into the Vasari Corridor will be the highlight of the morning tour, away from big crowds, invisible to all those people populating the streets along the Arno River and on the Ponte Vecchio, surrounded by paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries which belonged to the magnificent collections of the Medici family. The Vasari Corridor was built in just five months by Giorgio Vasari on the occasion of the wedding of Francesco, first born son of Cosimo I, with Joan from Austria in 1565, about one kilometer in lenght and travelling atop of the Ponte Vecchio to reach the Pitti Palace at the Buontalenti's Grotto. You will admire several world-famous selfportraits by Andrea del Sarto, Tiziano, Tintoretto, Sofonisba Anguissola, Rubens, Van Dyck, Velazquez, Charles LeBrun, Joshua Reynolds and the more recent by Marc Chagall, De Chirico, Annigoni, Rauscheberg and Michelangelo Pistoletto.

After exiting the Vasari Corridor morning tour ends at the Pitti Square in the Oltrarno Neighbourhood (Artisan District) where you will have your free time for lunch and for browsing around in relax.

At 2.30pm you will meet back with your guide to explore together the spectacular Palatine Gallery at the noble floor of the Pitti Palace, incredibly rich in stuccoes and frescoes on the ceilings, marvellous and unique pieces of furniture with tops with mosaics in semi-precious stones, and above all extraordinary masterpieces of Italian and European paintings signed by Raffaello, Andrea del Sarto, Rubens, Murillo, Van Dyck, Caravaggio, Tiziano. At the end of the visit your guide will depart from you and you can remain, if you wish, inside the museum on your own till closing time.

Children can participate to this tour only if 8+ yo.

N.B. In the wintertime warm clothing and warm shoes are most advisable in the Vasari Corridor due the lack of heating.
Bring your cameras, pictures without the use of flash ARE allowed! Backpacks, big bags and big umbrellas are not allowed. Please consider that at the end of the tour it is neither possible to remain inside the Boboli Gardens nor to go back the Uffizi Gallery.
