Uffizi & Vasari Corridor: Morning Tour
Until not so long ago it seemed almost impossible to visit the celebrated Vasari Corridor, due to long waiting lists and few available dates during the year. Since May 2012 we are offering our Uffizi Gallery & Vasari Corridor Group Tour.
A memorable experience through the Medici’s private passageway from the Uffizi Gallery to the Pitti Palace across the Ponte Vecchio.
• Uffizi Gallery’s iconic paintings admired with a professional fluent English speaking tour-guide
• Breathtaking views of Florence from Uffizi’s panoramic terrace
• Exclusive walk through the Vasari Corridor with exhaustive description of its unique collection of artists’ self-portraits.
After the welcome, we will enter the Uffizi Gallery through the priority line access for groups with a reservation.
Our guides will tell you about history and origins, colors and shapes, of some of the most famous paintings in the world, as the Madonna Enthroned by Giotto, the Adoration of the Magi by Gentile da Fabriano, the portraits of the Dukes of Urbino by Piero della Francesca, the Birth of Venus and Allegory of Spring by Botticelli, the Leonardo da Vinci's Annunciation, and the Michelangelo's Tondo Doni.
After that, we will take a break for about twenty minutes at the Uffizi Café, where you can enjoy an amazing view of Florence from the rooftop terrace.
Directly from the Uffizi Gallery, we will enter in the Vasari Corridor, where our guide will tell you first the architectur and history of the famous building, and then the artistic treasures that it houses.
Designed by Giorgio Vasari (1511-1574), the Vasari Corridor in Florence served as passage and as an escape route for the Medici family. The Vasari Corridor in fact connects the Palazzo Vecchio, which is located on the north bank of the Arno River, with the newest and most prestigious Pitti Palace in the Oltrarno, south bank of the river. Palazzo Pitti was purchased in 1549 by Cosimo I de' Medici and his wife Eleonora of Toledo, and soon became their new residence.
The Vasari Corridor superbly travels through the top floor of the Uffizi Palace, and reaches the world-famous Ponte Vecchio with a 90° bend, in order to cross the Arno River and continue towards the Pitti Palace. The Corridor allowed the Medici family to reach safely their new mansion, without being seen by their subjects!
During our Uffizi & Vasari Corridor Morning Tour you will discover the unique collection of self-portraits (up to the twentieth century) and many other masterful works featured in the Vasari Corridor.
Our Uffizi & Vasari Corridor: Morning Tour will be conducted entirely in English.
Regrettably this tour is not available for people with limited mobility.
N.B. Please consider to wear warm clothing in the winter, because the Vasari Corridor is not provided with any heating system.
